Behind the Scenes: Lights, Camera, Tile!

The Tile Shop called. I answered with thinset on my hands and disbelief in my voice. It was real.

"Is this real? Are you sure you have the right number?" That was literally my first line when the marketing team from The Tile Shop rang me up. I am used to wet saws, thinset, and laser levels—not makeup chairs and lighting angles. Yet here we are: a national brand flew down to interview a local tile guy from Central Florida as a Featured Contractor.

Looking back after wrapping the shoot, I am filled with gratitude. This wasn't about fifteen minutes of fame; it was about the dust, the prep, the obsession with detail that defines everything we do at Aesthetic Tile.

Never in a Million Years

We started Aesthetic Tile with a simple mission: bring old-world craftsmanship to Central Florida. We obsess over substrate prep. We measure three times before a single cut. On every backsplash, floor, shower, or fireplace, we imagine the family living with it daily—and that keeps our standards high.

To see that dedication recognized on a national stage is validation we never expected but deeply appreciate. It proves that quality speaks for itself.

A Moment of Validation

Standing under lights, answering questions about technique and materials, I realized this wasn't just about me. It was validation for every late night estimating, every extra mile for clients, every time we insisted on doing things the right way when the easy way was faster.

The crew wanted the 'nerdy' details: waterproofing systems (specifically FloFX, GoBoard, Superior, and Ardex), how we handle humidity during cure times, and how we lay out non-square rooms. We talked lippage control on large-format porcelain, why mortar coverage matters, and why precise substrate prep is the foundation of a carefully built installation.

The Technical Details: What Caught Their Eye

Off camera, they told me they look for installers who treat the trade like an art form. Not the "slap up a backsplash in two hours" type—the craftsmen who understand the science behind every install.

Being featured proved that the meticulous stuff we obsess over—coverage, prep, layout, movement joints—is exactly what makes finished spaces look effortless.

Signature Showers: More Time for the Details

Our Signature Showers package brings more design time, technical detail work, and bespoke material selection to the bathroom. Both Standard and Signature showers receive careful preparation and testing. Signature makes room for more involved layouts and refined finishes, with scope and pricing tailored to the area and tile selected.

Our preferred assembly: GoBoard walls with sealed, reinforced seams, a site-built shower pan with FloFX waterproofing membrane and drain, and ARDEX mortar and grout. Wedi is available when requested. Curbless and steam shower details are reviewed against the selected products and project-specific installation requirements.

Signature details: An engraved FloFX drain, a 3D-printed hair catcher, and a solid-metal grate frame are included in the shower package. Our current mortar selections are ARDEX X5 for Standard and X77 for Signature, with grout specified for each project. These product choices do not by themselves establish manufacturer warranty eligibility.

Testing and closeout: Every shower is leak-tested before tile: a full flood test for curbed showers and a flush flood test for curbless showers. Heated floors are tested before and after tile, with a cable integrity monitor during installation. Clients receive photos and documentation during the work and a cleaning and maintenance brochure tailored to their finished project.

Our Workmanship Commitment

Aesthetic Tile will stand by our work by making necessary repairs due to improper installations for 5 years after the installation date.

Manufacturer warranties are separate from this workmanship commitment. Manufacturer warranties depend on the selected products, documented installation and applicable written terms.

The same attention to layout and finish informs our custom backsplash work: blending tile from different boxes, considering stone sealing before grouting, and choosing appropriate flexible joints at countertops. Each backsplash has its own material selections and scope.

The Tile Shop has been part of that journey, connecting us with materials and educational opportunities that inform our craft.

Why "Signature"? A Legacy of Art.

The concept behind all of this is deeply personal. My great-grandmother, Rita Neblett from Louisville, KY, was a fine artist. When she finished a piece of artwork she was truly proud of, she signed it—not just to claim it, but to remind future generations of her passion and dedication to her craft.
